Donald E. Pope, age 89, departed from this world on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at his home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He was born in Shelby, Ohio on February 26, 1928 and resided in Tiro, Ohio until moving to Fort Walton Beach in 1958. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He served in the United States Merchant Marine during World War II. His work ethic was very strong. He rarely missed a day of work in his 30 plus years of being a salesman. He was well known by his family and friends for his love of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Chicago Cubs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Kathryn Pope; a sister, Marilyn P. Lambert and a son in law, Bruce Yarbrough. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary B. Pope of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; two daughters, Cindi Yarbrough of Cumming, Georgia and Kathi Voytek (Jim) of Pensacola, Florida; two sons, John Pope (Cris) of Pensacola, Florida and Lee Pope of Mobile, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Rodney Smith (Heather), Zach Smith, Beth Mullins, Malinda Hankins, Rachel King (John Paul), Caroline Pope and Julia Pope; three great grandchildren, Ethan Hankins, Cain Smith and Tyler Mullins; a sister, Marlene Armbruster (Gene) and many nieces and nephews. An inurnment will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.
