Janet M. Davis, age 80, resident of Fort Walton Beach, passed away peacefully at her home on April 11, 2017 with her children by her side. Jan was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1936. She graduated from Latrobe High School in 1954. After high school, she served 5 years in the United States Air Force. Jan retired on March 1, 1995 after a 28-year career in Civil Service at Eglin Air Force Base. Jan played many roles within Stage Crafters Community Theatre for 25 years. Her first was in 1972 as an actor in Arsenic and Old Lace. She took on many award-winning roles on stage and behind the scenes including Director of multiple productions with her favorite being 12 Angry Men and within the Stage Crafters organization as Secretary and President. Jan’s interests over the years included journalism, reading, writing, cross stitch, Cherry Coke, serving as Treasurer for her Homeowners’ Association and ‘lunching with the ladies’. However, her greatest pride came from raising her three children as a single parent. Jan had many adventures traveling but her favorite travel destination was to Las Vegas with friends. You could always find her there playing her favorite game; Black Jack.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Teri Davis McClain of Marietta, Georgia, son-in-law, Jeff McClain of Kennesaw, Georgia and grandson, Michael McClain of Brooklyn, New York; son, Scott Davis and his wife Kate and grandchildren Taylor, Anna and William of Geneseo, Illinois; daughter-in-law Shannon Davis and grandson, Wesley Davis both of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; sister, Geraldine Miller and brother and sister-in-law, Girard and Elly Smith of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Jan is preceded in death by her father, Gerald Smith; mother, Alyce Smith of Latrobe, Pennsylvania and her son; William (Bill) L. Davis of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted at McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Avenue in Fort Walton Beach on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 11:00 am with Father John Licari officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
