My heart is very heavy tonight. It's hard to believe it's been 2 years since we lost my brother Stephen. (We were seven year twins, being born on the same day, seven years apart.) I miss him so much and think of him everyday. I sure do wish I could call him for one of our late night chats, while he was on the road. If only he could pick-up the phone, I know he would have a joke or two to tell me or he'd be in the middle of helping someone in need, teaching them the best way to do whatever it was. He always knew the right way to do it, and he was usually right. Stephen will be missed by many friends that knew him and the Dettle family. It is the end of a great era, with the sale of our family home on the Island, that my Father built in the 50's and was the 13th house built on Okaloosa Island. It was sold this summer, against my wishes. My Mama never wanted to sell Her house, but since She's gone and now Stephen's gone, it just would never be the same, again. The Dettle house was the place to go, if you needed to feel loved and welcomed. Some will remember 533 Dolphin Avenue for the infamous parties, I will always remember the love, compassion and understanding, my Mama, Antoinette Marie Dettle gave through the years, that changed peoples lives. We sure could use more people like Her, in this harsh world we're living in. I will speak your names and I will always keep you in my heart...

Just saw this when thinking about Steve and all the Dettles in Ft Walton beach back in the early 1970’s. Steve drove Marie out to our wedding in Texas. This family is why I am a happier person today! Love to Jodie, Jimmy, and Debbie.

Hi Judy, thank you for your kind words. Hope you are well. I just happened to look over here tonight, with it being two years yesterday. I really miss Stephen and I don't think it will ever get any easier, not having Mama (Marie) here with us. We all loved her so dearly. I know Mama sure loved you. Those were the days. So much fun!!! I miss them both so much and I'm so sad about the house. Anyway, let me hear from you when you get a chance and we can catch up a bit. Mama would love that. Take care, Deb Dettle Hall

Our lives have an empty space without Steve. I will miss seeing his smiling face and knowing that no matter what he was dealing with, he always had a smile and a quick laugh for me.
