Alice Mae Hilliard, age 92, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida passed away on July 16, 2021. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 7, 1928 to James and Mae Hayes.
Her love of antique carnival glass began as a child. Her family owned and operated Lee Amusement Company, a traveling carnival housed in Montgomery Alabama, and later built the historic landmark Goofy Golf on Eglin Parkway. Family vacations were spent near the water, fishing pole in hand, and her love for the beach continued throughout her life. A lover of the arts, she composed two songs, many paintings and was an amazing dancer. In her 80’s she performed with the Golddiggers tap dance and singing troupe, bringing smiles to many. She had a passion for animals and in her later life politics was always up for discussion; even better if you took her out to lunch.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Raymond “Buddy” Hayes.
Alice is survived by her sisters, Louise Hayes Dersy and Betty Ann (Charlie) Jones; children, Sandra Franks, Wanda (Ronnie) Munn, Deanna (Mark) Rainwater, Peter (Patricia) Thomson; grandchildren, Mark (Luoma) Franks, Michelle (Chris) Loy, Jennifer (Charley) Guyton; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Friday, July 23, 2021, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at McLaughlin Mortuary, in Fort Walton Beach. Interment immediately following at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
