Archie Melancon, age 78, died on October 28, 2017. Archie is survived by his wife Arlene Melancon; his older brother Henry and his family; his children Diane Melancon and Elizabeth Appleton, step-children Wendy Stevens and Robert Stevens; and his grandchildren Emma and Ross Clayton, Tiffany Cruz and Ryan Stevens. There were also those he loved as his grandchildren, Zach and Courtney Loesser. He is preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother Robert of Youngsville, LA.
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, he taught geography at California State University. He later worked as a geologist offshore, and the Department of Interior, retiring as an environmental impact specialist from Mineral Management Services in Washington DC. After retirement, he moved to Florida.
Archie had a passion for photography and rebuilding cameras. He also enjoyed woodworking, target shooting, rebuilding old rifles and building and fixing gadgets for friends and neighbors. He will be remembered by those who knew who and loved him for his gentleness and sense of humor.
A celebration of life service will be held at McLaughlin Mortuary Funeral Home on Friday, November 3, at 2pm, with a reception to follow at his home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Archie’s life.
