Marjorie Christine "Chris" Porter

Chris Porter went home to her savior on Saturday, November 12, 2022.

Chris was born March 27, 1924 in Cochran, GA to Julius and Mae Porter. She grew up in a large family on her father's peach farm. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in Economics, she married her true love, Willis Porter, on March 19, 1949.

They settled in Ft. Walton Beach in 1951. While raising their family, Chris was very active at First United Methodist Church in Ft. Walton Beach. She served on the Board of Trustees, taught The Seekers adult Sunday school class and taught the Disciple Bible Study courses for several decades. One of her favorite activities at the church was when she did the "Children’s Story" during services.

Chris was active in Eastern Star, including serving as Worthy Matron, Cooperative Extension Homemakers Club, American Association of University Women and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was involved with her children's activities in Boy Scouts of America and 4-1-1.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Willis Porter and daughter Susan Porter. She is survived by her sister Mary Ellen Wilson, sons, Dick Porter (Linda) of

Houston, TX, Joe Porter (Beverly) of Destin, FL and daughter Vickie Gard (Steve) of St. Augustine, FL, grandchildren Austin Gard, Griffin Gard, Caroline Porter and Alex Porter, and several nieces and nephews.

Chris was a lifelong learner who loved reading, music and discussing the issues of the day. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very accomplished seamstress. Teaching others was one of her greatest passions. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her wide variety of friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday December 7th at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church on First Street. The family will receive visitors at 9:30 am. Following the service, a reception will be in the Fellowship Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach.
