Daisy M. “Debbie” Gorman, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the Athens Health Clinic in Athens, AL. She was born in Columbia, MS in 1937. She was the daughter of Larkin and Bernice (Baker) Stinger. At the age of 12, Daisy moved with the family to Sumrall, MS where she attended Junior and High School. After graduation from Sumrall High School, she worked for Bell Telephone Company in Columbia for the summer, then transferred to the Bell Telephone office in Pensacola, FL. In 1956, she met the love of her life, Duncan (Doug) Gorman, and married him in 1957. Doug was in the Air Force at Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach, FL. In 1958, their only child, a daughter, Beverly arrived. After Beverly’s arrival, they were transferred to Charleston, SC, then to Germany, before returning to Fort Walton Beach. In 2019, she moved to Athens, Al where her two brothers lived.
Daisy was an avid bowler and served as the secretary of the Okaloosa/Walton Bowling Association for 20 years. She also loved working in her garden and her walks around the neighborhood.
Daisy was preceded in death by her husband Doug, her daughter Beverly, her parents, and three brothers, Johnnie, David, and Marvin; and a sister, Eloyse. She leaves behind a sister, Fern (and husband Bernie Hawk), two brothers, Phil (and wife Mary) Stringer, and Grady, “Denny” Stringer.
Family and Friends will be sharing memories at McLaughlin Mortuary on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 11:00 am. Inurnment will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
