Diana Lyeki Salmon

Diana Lyeki Salmon, age 87, of Destin, Florida and formerly of Houston, Texas passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020. She was a resident of the local area for the last 30 years.  She was born Diana Lyeki on October 29, 1932, in New Orleans, Louisiana to John and Amelia Lyeki. She attended St. Lakeview Grammar School, and graduated from Eleanor McMain High School. She began a lifelong contribution to her church as organist and pianist as a child. After high school, she began working as a teller at American Bank. She met her husband to be, Larmon Salmon, in 1954, and they were married in March of 1955. After Larmon completed his military service in Maryland, they returned to New Orleans with son Mark in 1957. She became the mother to a daughter and son in the subsequent years.  In 1969 the family moved to Houston, where she was a devoted mother and housewife. She continued her service to the church as organist and also volunteered for organizations such as Crisis Hotline. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1987 they moved to Destin, Florida.  She served as church organist for First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where she was also a member, until her death.  Diana's greatest loves were the Lord, her family and music.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and sister, Joan Hunt, and daughter, Cynthia Hinton. Survivors include children, Mark Salmon (Debbie) of Leander, Texas and Bruce Salmon (Tonya) of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Rory, Danae, Ellar and Andrew, great grandson Will, and siblings Linda West and John Lyeki, Jr.  A Celebration of Life service is scheduled at First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach, Florida on Friday, March 20, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dave Barkalow officiating. Following services, the inurnment will be in Destin Memorial Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach building fund in memory of Diana L. Salmon.
