Donald L Barnes, 62, of Crestview, Florida, died Thursday, February 6, 2020, at his home. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School Class of 1975. Mr. Barnes was a lifelong public servant with over 40 years of service. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1977, and spent over 26 years enlisted until his retirement from service. While in the Air Force he earned his Associate’s Degree in Information Technology. He served as a Forward Air Controller before transitioning into precision calibration. He spent most of his career working in PMEL labs. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for several years as a calibration technician at Crestview Aerospace before returning to public service as a civilian DoD employee at the PMEL lab on Eglin Air Force Base until he retired in September 2019. Born on September 21, 1957 in Williamsport, he was the son of Samuel Barnes and Joyce Smith. Surviving are his two sisters, Linda (Mark) Minniti and Sheri (Gary) Baity, and his brother, Samuel Barnes. Also surviving are his two children, Brandon Barnes, and Ashley (Michael) Fularz; as well as his two grandchildren, Tyler and Caitlyn. In lieu of flowers, the family of Mr. Barnes ask that memorial contributions be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation to support our nation’s soldiers, veterans, first responders, and their families. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, February 15 at 1:30 PM at The Event Room, 1825 Hurlburt Rd #11, Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
