Dorothy Jean Dials journey was from June 22, 1939 to March 24, 2020. She was born in Coffeville, Alabama and proudly called Mobile, Alabama her home as she grew up there, and she also met and married, the love of her life, Michael Wilfred Miles at Brookley AFB on December 7, 1963. She went home to see the Lord and to meet with her recently departed husband and soulmate, Michael Miles. Dorothy was a beautiful, quiet and witty, kind soul. She was the daughter of the late Geneva Sellers McCaskey and the late Leroy McCaskey. She had one sister, the late Albertine Dials. They all preceded her in death.
She leaves to carry-on in this life on earth her son, Michael A. (Patrice) Miles and a daughter, Zena (Carl) Payne. She also has
four grandchildren, Aaron, Alyssa, Chiara and Charisma. She has a special niece from her late sister, Ingrid Narcisse and a great niece, Aliyah who shares Dorothy's birthday. Also, surviving her is Michael's brothers, James A.(Sarah) Miles, Jr. and their three children (Kevin, James, and Sarita) and Vandue (Alice) Miles and their two children (Michael and Vanita) along with the late Michael's stepmother, Vestine Miles. Dorothy also leaves behind a host of family, framily, friends, and associates that she has touched and encountered along life's journey.
Dorothy loved to cook, loved to garden, loved music and she loved her family. Although she was not a social butterfly, she enjoyed doing things for others, especially her family. She liked to do interior decorating at her home and could transform bits and pieces of nothings into "fancy". She was a heck of a seamstress in her day and could stitch something together in no time as well as make clothing and do upholstery work.
It was not uncommon for her to cook two or three meals daily and if you were family or framily, you got to benefit from some of that good home-cooking. So far as to gardening, she could charm any plant or green thing there was. She spent many countless hours tending to the flowers, plants, and shrubbery at her home. She was a natural. Those plants were nourished from her special touch and care as if she were a special type of water and sunshine. Guess you could say she had green hands, not just a thumb.
Her children and their children were rated very high on her list of loves. Her husband, Michael, probably got a little edge though, as she took very good care of him, their family and life affairs especially while he served in the U.S. Air Force. I guess you could say she had him pretty spoiled even after his military career. She was dedicated to him and vice versa. They were Fric and Frac and you can't really say that you would see one without the other. It was not uncommon to see them riding around in the car listening to R & B or the Blues. They were pretty inseparable as evidenced in the short time they spent apart this March 2020. Three weeks exactly to the day, Michael left this earth to go and help prepare a place for her. Yes, it was exactly three weeks later, that Dorothy Jean joined him in their new home in Heaven. She was as tough as nails and sweet as pie. She endured a lot and was a fighter. The Lord has relieved her of the worldly troubles, sicknesses, and pain. Her struggles are over. She did an excellent job. Praise God!
A private Celebration of Life will be Friday, April 3, 2020 at McLaughlin Mortuary with interment to follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
