Eddie Kenneth Brasfield (USAF & USMC Ret) of Mary Esther, FL passed away peacefully on September 11th, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Eddie was born on January 4, 1935, in Quinton, AL to Edgar Brasfield and Audrey Quinn Brasfield. He attended Dora High School in Dora, AL where he was a star end for the Bulldog football team in 1952. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served from 1954-1963 with the Marine Air Group 28 as an electrical engineer serving in Okinawa, Japan, Cherry Point, NC, and Parris Island, SC. He turned his desire to serve his country into a career and transitioned to the U.S. Air Force in 1963. He later completed studies at the University of South Carolina and Allan Hancock College in California.
Eddie’s service to his country spanned one of the nation’s most bitter conflicts, the Vietnam War, where he served two separate combat tours with the 392 Comms Squadron in Southeast Asia. After Vietnam he led the tele-switching controls at the Central Communications Office at Vandenburg Air Force Base in California.
While in the Air Force, Eddie met and married his wife Marta “Sandra” Chirip Brasfield in Belleville, IL, July of 1968. They later settled in Fort Walton Beach, FL after Eddie retired from the USAF in June of 1974. He was then a longtime employee and supervisor with CENTEL in Fort Walton Beach before retiring again in 1994.
He was a proponent of life-long learning, and he found great purpose in studying US history even after his college days were over. A man with many hobbies, on any given weekend, you might find him in the woods hunting deer, on a lake, river or the gulf fishing, playing a round of golf, or cheering on his beloved Crimson Tide.
Eddie was preceded in death by his brother Claude Brasfield and his sisters Judy Ferguson, Sheila Jones, and Dianne Luster. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marta Sandra Brasfield, his proud sons Eddie Craig Brasfield (Janet) of Hanceville, AL, Paul Kenneth Brasfield of Palestine, TX and Edgar Frank Brasfield of Birmingham, AL. He will also be dearly missed by his longtime neighbors who became like family to him and his cousins from Walker County, AL whom he dearly loved. Funeral services will be held at McLaughlin Mortuary in Fort Walton Beach on September 16, 2022, at 11:00 am with visitation prior beginning at 10:00 am. A military burial service will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery. Expressions of love and sympathy may be viewed and placed at www.mclaughlinmortuary.com
