Our sweet Nana, Frances Gwendolyn (Gwen) Rogers, age 86, passed away in her sleep on June 2, 2018, at the Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Born October 14, 1931, Gwen was the only child of Hobson and Pearlie Mae Miller of Pensacola. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack with whom she raised 3 sons in Fort Walton Beach, John (Debbie), Matt (Sheila), and Doug (Johnie) . Gwen also leaves behind 7 grandsons who adored her, Adam, Dallas, Mikey, Kyle, Michael, Shane and Andy as well as 9 great-grandchildren, Jon Miller, Luke, Hudson Jack, M.J., Lexie, Kylie, Caydon, Karlie and Carmon. Infant granddaughter, Courtney, preceded her in death.
After retiring from her career with the Okaloosa County School District as a secretary at Fort Walton Beach High School, Gwen continued to be an active member of Cinco Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Fort Walton Beach Women’s Club and worked as a volunteer at the medical center. She and Jack spent 19 summers working as volunteer campground hosts with the Nantahala National Forest in Franklin, North Carolina. Gwen loved the mountains and walking in the woods so much that she referred to herself as “Mountain Women.”
Our precious Nana loved life. She loved people and people loved her. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother as well as friend to so many. She touched our lives deeply and will live in our hearts forever.
