Garry Wayne (Sr.) Barnard

Garry Wayne Barnard, age 83, of Niceville, FL, went to be with the Lord, on May 14, 2023. He was born to Nevol and Mary Sue (Connally) on May 1, 1940 in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. He is predeceased by his wife Lynn (Goldberg) Barnard and his parents. He is survived by his sister Debra Kennedy (Mark) and his children Dana S. Gehret (Linda), Bonnie B. Waters (Forrest), Garry Barnard, Jr, his grandchildren Winston Kennedy Scales (Richard), and Forrest Clayton Waters.

Garry graduated High School from New Hope H. S. In 1958 where he met the first love of his live, Patricia Kennedy (mother of his three children). Following high school, he attended Auburn University for one quarter then transferred to the University of Alabama where he graduated in 1963 with a degree in mathematics. In1969 he received a master’s degree in statistics from Virginia Tech. 

Garry’s career as a Civil Servant (SES) of the U.S. Army lasted many years where he got the opportunity to travel abroad and was given a high level of security clearance. Following his retirement from civil service, he went to work for CAS, a Huntsville based defense contractor. In the latter part of his career, he worked as an adjunct professor for the Universe of Phoenix until he retired in 2018. 

Garry was a devoted Christian and was a founding member of St. Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church in El Paso where is lived for over 40 years. His service included being on the prayer team, finance committee, the vestry where he served as Jr. and Sr. Warden.

He will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his passion for Alabama football, and his fun spirit who kept dancing until the end. 

A celebration of life service will be held at American House Bluewater Bay Friday, May 26 at 3:30.
