Tribute

George “Chris” Muhlbach, 78, passed away on July 12, 2021 at his home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Chris was born February 24, 1943 in College Point, New York. He lived in Greeley, Colorado while attending college and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado. He relocated to Fort Walton Beach in 1976 and married Darlynn McLain on May 29, 1977.

After serving in the United States Air Force, Chris had an honorable career in local law enforcement, which spanned three decades. He served with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Walton Beach Police Department, and the State of Florida. He founded the first formal community policing and crime prevention programs in Okaloosa County. His love of people and working with children was evident in his dedication to his work.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marion Muhlbach. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Darlynn Muhlbach; son, Brian Muhlbach and wife Megan; and grandchildren, George “Will” Muhlbach II, Bennett Muhlbach, and Adyla Rutan of Fort Walton Beach; nephew, Eric Bush; and sister-in-law Perin Bush of Tallahassee.

Chris had a fondness for cats and will be missed by his feline friends, Bobbie, Piper, and Marcy. His first stop on the way to Heaven will undoubtedly be at “The Rainbow Bridge” to be reunited with his beloved cats, Gizmo and Nikki, and his dog, Sparky, who preceded him in death.

In honor of his wishes, Chris will be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Valparaiso First Assembly of God in Valparaiso, Florida
