Gertrude E. Slaughter, born October 2, 1921, in Bell County, Texas, reached her 100th birthday this past year and died January 13, 2022. Gertrude married Earl A. Slaughter in San Antonio, Texas in July 1941. CMSgt Slaughter is deceased. Gertrude was the mother of 4 children. Barbara McGlynn, Donald Dixon (Alexandra), Virginia Rodriguez (Marcello), and Robert Slaughter (Judy). Grandmother of Sean McGlynn (Kathryn), Erin McGlynn (Sean), Jessica Dixon-Horton (Bard), Christina Dixon (Lilli), Nicholas Rodriguez (Yuliya), David Rodriguez, and John Pitkin. The Great Grandmother of Aidan Smith-McGlynn, Zachary Dixon-Horton, Hannah Dixon-Horton, Anya Rodriguez, and Alina Rodriguez.
Gertrude was an accomplished artist whose paintings won prizes in local art shows and whose painted backdrops enhanced many productions at Cinco Baptist Church. She was a devoted member of Cinco Baptist Church for over 50 years where she taught preschool and served as department leader of the preschool, served as secretary of church committees, and was very active in the senior group, including serving as a Sunday School teacher. Gertrude was known for making everyone feel welcome.
As an Air Force wife, Gertrude lived all over the US and also in the UK and Germany.
Wherever she found herself, her first priority was to make a home for her family. As a senior citizen, she learned to play Mexican Train dominoes and shared that love with her friends and family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Cinco Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 1:30 pm and Interment will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 10:00 am.
