Jane Elaine Eccles Day
Our beloved mother, Jane Elaine Eccles Day, passed from this life on March 28, 2023. She was the epitome of a humble servant, always putting the needs of others above her own, and treating everyone she encountered with genuine kindness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, parents, Edith and William Eccles, brothers William and Paul Eccles, and Sisters Jessie Eccles, Mary Johansen, and Pauline Hall. She is survived by her daughters, Tanya Kirby (Bill) and Yolanda Richter, and sons, Mike (Kelly) and Mark (Cindy), grandchildren Mallory Jehring, Lauren Kirby, Sierra Spikes, Brian Day, Haven Richter, and Winston Day, and great-grandchildren, Callie Jane and Madison Spikes, and Barrett Day.
Jane was born on July 20, 1928, in Pensacola, FL, and could trace her roots in Okaloosa County as far back as the 1830s. With the exception of a short time in Miami as a young woman and her travels with Chuck as an Air Force wife, she spent her entire life on the family homestead in Mary Esther. Her grandchildren loved to hear her stories about “the old days” when Highway 98 was a dirt road and cows would pass summer days in the Santa Rosa Sound to escape the dog flies. Though much changed around her over the course of her 94 years, one thing that never changed was her love for her large extended family, and her willingness to help anyone at any time. She will be missed by all who had the great fortune to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Ronald McDonald House in Jane’s honor.
A funeral service will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church in Mary Esther on Tuesday, April 11 at 10:30 am.
