Tribute

Mable Marie was always driven to do and accomplish. She filled her life with many laudable pursuits. She learned the value of hard work and paying your own way, at an early age. Applying these lessons, Marie completely paid for her college education, working in the college bookstore, post office, cafeteria and purchasing department. Marie earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, from Evangel College in Springfield, MO. She met her future husband Paul there, while earning her degree. They married in 1968.

Marie taught public school for several years, along side Paul. They taught in Missouri, Kansas, and Utah. When her husband joined the US Air Force, Marie began a new journey. In 1976 Marie entered basic training for the Army Reserve, serving in the Army Reserves for 9 years. Stationed in Hawaii with Paul, she became the editor of a newspaper focusing on military related news. As a journalist, she covered a visit of the Premier of China, when he stopped in Honolulu, on his way to visit President Ronald Regan, in Washington DC. She also served as a military liaison for US Congressman Cec Heftel in Honolulu, Hawaii, writing letters for the congressman, addressing constituent military matters.

Marie loved the Fort Walton Beach community. She was an active leader in her neighborhood Crime Watch Program. She also served on the Executive Committee for the Republican Party of Okaloosa County. Marie served as a Precinct committee woman and as the Okaloosa County, Republican Party Treasurer. Marie valued the importance of sharing. Through generous giving she and Paul supported the charity, Feed the Children, in providing over 11,000 meals to children going hungry at home and abroad.

In recent years, Marie could often be found tending to her home landscaping and flower gardens, letter writing to family, friends, and members of the US Congress. She loved writing poetry and had several poems published. Spending time with her college sweetheart and husband, Paul, was something she always cherished.  They were married for 53 years.

Mable Marie was the daughter of the late Myrtle and Paul Connolly.  Her beloved husband Paul passed seven days after her.  She is survived by three brothers Ronald, Rick and Rodney Connolly of Ohio and many loved nieces and nephews. She was a bright light to all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.
