Tribute

Margaret M. Luckie was taken to her heavenly home by our gracious Lord on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the age of 91.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 15th at 2pm at First Baptist Church, Fort Walton Beach, Florida with visitation at 12:30pm. Masks and social distancing are requested. The officiating minister is Dr. Wade Humphries. The service will be live streamed.

She was born on August 7th, 1929, in Alabama to Mattie and Charlie Madaris. She married William Clark Luckie, Jr in June of 1947, on Friday the 13th and when questioned about that date, she like to tell people that "I have been 'Luckie' ever since." In 1955, they moved to Fort Walton Beach. She was employed by Civil Service as an accountant in the engineering division at Hurlburt Field and Eglin Air Force Base. She retired in 1985 with 30 years of service.

In her retirement, she became a tour guide and host with Creative Tours, with numerous national and international trips, working over 20 years in this position. 

She was an active member of FBC, Fort Walton Beach for 65 years. She taught Sunday School, worked with homebound ministry, and was the senior adult director for many years, using some of her travel host skills in this position. 

One of her greatest joys was her family and she was an avid Alabama fan!

She was preceded in death by parents, Mattie and Charlie Madaris; husband, William Clark Luckie Jr; son, William Clark Luckie III; grandson, Clark Roper, great-grandaughter; Ellanie Roper; Sisters- Daisy Styles, Ruth Lawson, Evelyn Gates; Brothers- Charles Madaris Jr, James Madaris, Don Madaris; Sister in laws- Cad Luckie Gates and Sarah Madaris Hicks.  

She is survived by daughter, Sandra Roper, Hueytown, AL; 6 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, Kim Luckie, FWB, FL, Angela and Nathan Murray, Graycen, MaryEvelyn, Cooper, Ella and Annagail, Salisbury, NC, Jennifer and Jeff Weathers, Austin, Dylan, Walter and Audrey, Sycamore AL, Billy and Aseneth Luckie, Clark and Ilyea, FWB, FL, Heather and Johnny McMillian, Jackson and Haleigh, Remlap, AL, Jeremy and Maegan Roper, Emmalyn, Harrison and Hampton, McCalla, AL, Sister, Frances Stanford, FWB, FL, Sister in laws- Nell Madaris, Montgomery, AL, Kay Madaris, Ruidoso, NM. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Special thanks to Emerald Coast Hospice who took excellent care of her. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the senior adult ministry at FBC, FWB or Children’s Building Fund at Valley Creek Baptist Church in Hueytown, AL or to your favorite charity.
