Mary Jean Mauldin

Mary Jean Mauldin, age 92 of Fort Walton Beach, Florida passed away peacefully Monday March 5, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born on November 9, 1925 to Arnold and Pearl Hundley in Enterprise, Alabama.  She and her husband moved to Foley, Alabama in 1957.  Jean attended Mobile Beauty School and practiced cosmetology for many years.  She owned and operated Jean’s Beauty Shop in Foley, Alabama.  Not only was Jean a successful beautician and business owner but she was also a talented quilter and seamstress.  After retiring in 1981, she launched her passion for quilt making.  She was a member of several quilt guilds including the Silver Thread’s Quilt Guild in Fort Walton Beach where she was known as “Mama Jean.”  She attended numerous quilt shows and won several awards for her designs.  In an interview by Susan Southworth of Old-Fashioned Patchwork, a quilter’s magazine, she quotes “I never saw a fabric that I didn’t like.”  Jean had an amazing fabric collection.   Her most favorite past-time was visiting family and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Jean had a strong faith and attended Cinco Baptist Church in Fort Walton.  She is preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Pearl Hundley, her husband Hubert Reece Mauldin, her son Garry Reece Mauldin, her daughter-in-law Nancy Mauldin and her brothers Niman and Doug Hundley.  Jean is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Jerry) Urquhart, her son Bobby (Becky) Mauldin, her sister-in-law Irene Hundley, and her grandchildren Amy Urquhart Saxer, Clay Urquhart, Ronnie Mauldin, Sabra Mauldin, Garry (Jamie) Mauldin, Ashley (James) Spillman, Lee Ann Irwin, David (Quinn) Mauldin and Amanda Birchfield.  She is also survived by several great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 am on Thursday, March 8th at Cinco Baptist Church.  A celebration of life will begin at 10:00 am.  Interment will take place at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley, Alabama at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 9th.
