Max K. McHaney
October 1, 1933 ~ September 14, 2023 (age 89) 89 Years Old
Max K. McHaney, Jr., (Army Retired LTC) age 89, of Shalimar, Florida passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023. Colonel McHaney was born on October 1, 1933 in Uniontown, Alabama to Max K. McHaney, Sr. & Lillian Lucille Gates.
Colonel McHaney served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict as a pilot, and was awarded a purple heart for injuries he sustained. His retirement years were spent creating custom furniture and built ins for his beloved home. After an injury restricted him for continuing his woodwork, he enjoyed the outdoors and feeding animals who came to visit him in his yard. He was skilled at finding a football game on television at any time of the night or day, even during the off season. He remained an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan until his passing.
Those preceding Colonel McHaney in death include: his parents; siblings, Sissy, Ronald, and Carl; son, Max K. McHaney. III (Kelly); son-in-law, Stephen Stiyer; and grand daughters, Elizabeth and Alexandra McKee. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Jeanette McHaney; daughters, Sonja Elliott, Rhonda Stiyer, and Wendy McKee (Jeff); grandchildren, Michael McHaney, Addeline Ulate, Samuel Stiyer, Hilliary McKee, and Miller Frank; great granddaughters, Hayley and Sydney; as well as numerous nieces and nephews
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 10:00 am at Beal Memorial Cemetery, in Fort Walton Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Colonel McHaney’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org
