OLLIE FAY WOODWARD FLINT

January 13, 1930 – January 11, 2023

Ollie Fay Woodward Flint passed peacefully from this life into eternity on January 11, 2023.  Ollie Fay was born in Meridian, Mississippi to Ollie and Gussie Wood.  Ollie lived in Mississippi until 1964 when she and her husband, Paul Woodward transferred from Greenville AFB, Mississippi to Eglin AFB, Florida.  She retired from Eglin in 1993 as Management Analyst after working 37 years with the Air Force and 8 with the State of Mississippi.  Ollie received numerous awards including the Air Force Distinguished Equal Employment Opportunity Award for the Federal Women’s Program, in 1990; Alumna of the Year from East Central Community College, Decatur, Mississippi in 2007.  Reared on a farm in rural Neshoba County, Mississippi, where she picked cotton, and canned vegetables, and helped her widowed mother care for her 4 younger siblings, as her father had died when she was 12, and the youngest was only 10 months old.  A member of Shalimar UMC and Builders Sunday School Class since 1964. President of Shalimar United Methodist Women’s (UMW) for three years. Ollie was President of Pensacola District UMV for one year, and President of Shalimar UMC Friendship Club for seniors for two terms.  Her joy was serving her Lord and Savior and helping others.  Ollie was a graduate of Arlington Vocational High School, East Central Junior College, and many AF-sponsored courses. 

She is survived by her daughter Diana LaCroix (Bill); sister, Patricia Orr Mobile, AL; brother, Smith Eckle Wood (Janet) Eufaula, AL; double first-cousin, Zane Wood Black, Clarksville, TN; sister-in-law, Yole Wood, Texas; brother-in-law John Woodward, Niceville, FL; nephews and nieces and special friend Jim.

Ollie is preceded in death by her husbands Paul J. Woodward (1996) and L.L. Flint (1999); mother, Gussie Flint (2008); father, Ollie Wood (1942); brother, Wayne W. Wood (2017); sister, Sonya Wood Marcase (2021); brother-in-law, Dr. Bernie Orr (2022); and stepfather, J.T. Flint (1971).

Services will be held at Shalimar United Methodist Church in Shalimar, FL on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.  The viewing will be from 1:00 – 2:00 and the service will begin at 2:00.  Burial will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach, FL.  Donations can be made to Shalimar United Methodist Church.
