Paul Guiney

Paul, the son of the late Earl and Kathryn Guiney, was born on March 5, 1945 in Lafayette, Indiana. Paul graduated from Klondike High School in 1963, an avid musician, and accomplished trombone player. He honed his musicianship at Evangel College, Springfield, MO, completing a bachelors degree in music education in 1969. While in college Paul was a member of the “Collegians”, a five member brass band. The quintet toured in the United States, promoting the college. Paul married his college sweetheart, the late Mable Marie (Collins) Guiney in August of 1968. They enjoyed each other’s company for over 53 years.

Paul, with Marie, taught in public schools for several years. Paul was a band director and music teacher in Missouri, Kansas and Utah public schools. In 1973 Paul joined the US Air Force. While stationed in Hawaii, Paul was a member of the Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service Team, whose mission encompassed providing rescue and recovery support for manned US space flights conducted by NASA. Paul was an Aerospace Maintenance Superintendent for this team. He received many accommodations for his mechanical expertise and problem solving abilities, while serving with this unit. During his tenure in the Air Force, Paul spent several years overseas, in Southeast Asia, Italy, and several other locations, ending with a deployment to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Dessert Shield/Storm. Paul completed his military career as a Non-Commissioned Officer, Master Sergeant. He always took pride in conscientiously executing his duties and assignments.

After retirement from military service Paul and Marie shared responsibilities running a local business in Fort Walton Beach. During his free time Paul loved to drive and maintain his collection of antique cars. He was also a skilled builder doing a number of home renovations with Marie. He and Marie participated in supporting several local churches and charities with their generosity.

Paul is survived by brothers Dale and his wife Lillie and Glen all residing in Indiana and 8 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews living across the United States. Paul’s beloved wife, Marie, his parents Earl and Kathryn and brother, the Reverend Carl Guiney preceded him in death.

A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, March 7th at Barrancas Memorial Cemetery in Pensacola, Fl. Those wishing to attend will meet at the Olive Baptist Church, Warrington Campus parking lot, 103 W. Winthrop Ave., Pensacola, FL 32507 at 9:30 am for a procession to the cemetery at 10 am.
