Richard Stokes

February 20, 1952 ~ May 11, 2023 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Tribute

Our dad, Richard Stokes, 71, passed away on Thursday, May 11th, 2023, after a long battle with bone marrow cancer.  Our dad had a successful career as a Civil Engineer where he designed many boardwalks and buildings in the Destin and Fort Walton Beach area. He worked for Northrop Grumman in the early 2000’s in Huntsville Alabama and later he was hired by the U.S. Air Force as a civilian employee.

Our dad was a faithful member and leader in his church. He was in the praise and worship band where he played his guitar and sang.  He taught a boy's youth group called “Royal Rangers” every Wednesday for most of his adult life. In their early 20’s our parents bought an old school bus that they had painted purple and would use it to pick up any child who wanted to go to Sunday School.  He traveled to many different countries including a missionary trip to Peru where he helped build a church.

He loved being outdoors and loved to go fishing, kayaking, hiking, camping, and raising pigeons to compete in pigeon shows.

Rick Stokes is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann, his daughters Moriah Norris, Rachel Stokes, and Mary Beth Birsen and his 7 grandchildren, Talon, Kiah, and Travin Norris, Lydia, Ava, Elliana and Pierson Duong.
