Robert (Bob) Merrill Fletcher, Sr.
After a successful 25 year career in the US Air Force Bob Fletcher became a physics teacher at the FWB High School from 1972 to 1995 where he was loved by students and faculty alike.
Bob was born in 1930 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to T.Wiley Fletcher and Nellie C. Fletcher. He was born as the 9th of thirteen children. Bob graduated from the Fitzgerald High School in 1947. He obtained a BS in Physics from the University of Georgia, and a MS in Education while stationed in Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany. He also attended Oklahoma State University where he majored in Meteorology and the University of North Dakota majoring in Education.
Bob enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in July 1947. He was transferred to the then new US Air Force in 1949. He served at air bases in Texas, Las Vegas, Japan, Seoul, Germany, Orlando, North Dakota, Alaska, Norh Carolina, Viet Nam, Okinawa and his final posting was at Eglin AFB, Florida. Bob had six years in enlisted service, and 16 years in commissioned service, retiring as a Major in 1972.
Bob is survived by his wife Pam, two sons and a stepson, Robert, Brad, and Jeremy, and numerous grand-children.
Baptist by faith, Bob actively participated in churches and choirs wherever he served.
Graveside services will be held at the Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach at 11 AM, Tuesday, March 9th.
Mr. Fletcher requested that in lieu of flowers any donation be made to the Wounded Warriors’ Association.
