Roy Rosario Ourso

September 28, 1923 ~ February 24, 2020 (age 96)


Roy Ourso, age 96 years - 4 months - 27 days, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 at his home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He was born September 28, 1923 in White Castle, Louisiana.  Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret (Betty) Walsh, two children; Myra and Robert (Susana), five grandchildren; Chris (Shannon), Syan (Shawn), Hunter (Caitlin), Austin, and Elizabeth, three great-grandchildren; Forest, Colton and Rozlen, and great great-great grandson Ryker. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, and two daughters; Elizabeth and Lolie.    Roy served in the 4th Marine Division and was awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifices during WWII. His Military Service included Saipan 1944, Pacific Ribbon Campaign with 3 Battle Stars, and the Korean War.  Roy earned a degree in Physics from Southeastern Louisiana University and attended the National War College.  He went on to work for Lockheed and fly 1000 hours on a C-130. Later, Roy worked for the Civil Service for the United States Air Force and was awarded the highest civilian medal given by the US Air Force for Meritorious Civilian Service, 1971.    One for our beloved "Greatest Generation” Roy shall be truly missed as a husband, father and great contributor to our Nation's Defense and Freedoms. A very loved, respected and giving man shall be truly missed.  The family would like to thank Emerald Coast Hospice, Crystal McClellan, and Kimberly Toles for providing Roy with exceptional care at the end of life.    A Funeral Mass will be held at St Mary Catholic Church, 110 St Mary Avenue SW, Fort Walton Beach, Florida on Thursday,  March 26, 2020 at 10:00 am.  Military inurnment at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, Florida on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 1:00 pm,  Anyone interested in attending may contact Roy's son, Robert Ourso by email at    Expressions of love and sympathy can be viewed or submitted online at
