John Franklin Rogers

March 9, 1930 ~ March 21, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old
Our beloved Pa, John (Jack) F. Rogers, Sr., age 87, passed away peacefully with family members at his side on March 21, 2017 at Grandview Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama. Born in Mobile, Alabama on March 9, 1930, Jack was the only child of Thaddeus and Margaret Rogers. He lived most of his life in Fort Walton Beach with his lifetime sweetheart Gwen with whom he raised 3 sons, John (Debbie), Matt (Sheila), and Doug (Johnie). Infant granddaughter Courtney preceded him in death. He leaves behind his 7 grandsons Adam, Dallas, Mikey, Kyle, Michael, Shane and Andy as well as his 9 great-grandchildren Jon Miller, Luke, Hudson Jack, M.J., Lexie, Kylie, Caydon, Karlie and Carmon.
Jack worked 25 years as a store manager at the Ft. Walton Beach Delchamps Grocery. After retiring, he served with the Florida Marine Patrol. Eager to continue enjoying the camping experiences they had shared with their sons, he and Gwen spent 19 summers serving as volunteer campground hosts at Apple Tree Campground in the Nantahala National Forest, Franklin, North Carolina. Jack loved to hunt and fish and always had a garden to tend in the back yard. He was a longtime faithful member of Cinco Baptist Church. Our Jack was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and a faithful friend.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 am at Cinco Baptist Church with funeral service to follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Our dear Pa will be laid to rest at Jesse Rogers Memorial Cemetery in Mary Esther.
